Q&A with The Brow Technicians – An inside scoop with Founder, Tatum Hargraves

As professional brow technician’s and salon owners, when a do-it-yourself comes along, we can get a little offside for several reasons. The Brow Technicians saw that opportunity in the market and created what we should look at as an extension of our professional services! Tatum Hargraves was a cosmetic tattoo artist herself if you didn’t already know.
Barneys caught up with Tatum to talk The Brow Technician’s in a little Q&A.
Q: How many times do you think you were asked for an aftercare or brow maintenance recommendation, before you told yourself it was time to give brow lovers what they didn’t know they needed?
A: More times that I can remember! Everyone wants perfectly groomed eyebrows but not many people know what to buy or how to shape them. That’s how the idea of the eyebrow Shaping & Maintenance Kit was born. A 3-piece set with reusable utensils, eyebrow razor, tweezers, and scissors. Everyone loves to come into salon to get their eyebrows waxed, shaped and tinted but we all still need our go-to tweezers, scissors, and razor on hand at home if need be, for a quicky tidy up. This shaping kit is a must have in your makeup bag at home.
Q: Can you tell us about the inspiration behind creating your brow makeup kits? What specific goals did you aim to achieve with these products?
A: After working 8+ years in the industry as an eyebrow tattooist and turning away clients that were hesitant to the commitment of tattooed brows, they would ask me what products I recommend instead. It’s not easy to create flawless, arched symmetrical brows especially when you have no idea what you’re doing. I didn’t want to send my clients away to purchase 4-5 eyebrow products that they didn’t know how to use. It’s expensive! That is when I came up with the idea to create the all-in-one eyebrow designer kit. Containing everything you need to design perfectly arched brows in minutes, located all in the one place for your convenience at an affordable price range.
Q: What sets your brow makeup kits apart from other products on the market, now that others are catching on? How do you differentiate your brand from competitors?
A: This original design plucked from my brain is fortunately the only brow kit like this on the market. What sets us apart is the fact it is all inclusive with every product that you need. From stencils, pencil, powders, concealer for carving, brow bone highlighter, brushes and a mirror. This compact and portable eyebrow palette is unlike any other. All our stencils are custom designed by me with the most requested eyebrow shapes I received over the years when designing eyebrows. Our sleek packaging design, quality long-wearing products and packaging is what sets as apart from the rest.
Q: Whilst this range was crafted with the end user in mind. How has and how can The Brow Technician’s work in favour for professional beauty salons and brow artists?
Being a previous salon owner myself I learnt that if your customers can’t get the products they need from you they will purchase them from somewhere else. Offering retail products to your customers provides convenience and helps increase revenue in your business. Your customers will purchase from you if you have them on hand. That relationship is built so they trust any product that you recommend to them. At the end of the day, they want you to provide a solution to their problems. Our retail range is designed to be up-sold during each beauty service. Using eyebrow products to polish of the brows are the perfect way for completing your brow look, showing your clients the results and educating them on what products/shades you have used to complete the look. Everyone has different makeup looks, whether it be day or night, products are a way for you to alternate your brow looks.
Q: What do you believe is the most important factor that has contributed to the popularity and success of your brand’s brow makeup kits?
A: Definitely it’s point of difference, having all your products in the one brow palette. It’s time saving, convenient, designed for beginners and solves the problem of unsymmetrical brows.
Q: Finally, How do you envision the future of your brow makeup kits? Also, are there any exciting developments or innovations that you’re currently working on?
A: The all-in-one eyebrow designer kit is a must-have in everyone’s makeup bag. Whether you are a beginner or brow expert this palette is for everyone! We envision the brow technicians going global and amongst all of this we plan to release more innovative, game changing eyebrow products to ensure women feel confident when designing their brows. We do have some very exciting products in the works that we can’t wait to share with you.
