We are celebrating International Women’s Day with some of the most inspirational women in our industry. Today’s guest is Tatum Hargraves of The Brow Technicians.
We are celebrating International Women’s Day 2024 with some of the most inspirational women in our industry. This year, it’s all about Inspiring Inclusion. When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, and when women themselves are inspired to be included, there’s a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment. Barneys wish to help inspire our industry and female salon owners with stories of success and insights from the biggest beauty brands in the market, and today, we meet up with Tatum Hargraves of The Brow Technicians, one of the leading retail brow brands on the market.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
IWD is a day to recognise the progress made towards gender equality and to raise awareness about the ongoing struggles and challenges that women face worldwide. It’s an important day to celebrate women and our achievements.
What or whom has been your inspiration for achieving the career you dreamed of?
My mum, she has always inspired me and encouraged me to dream big and go after what I want. Growing up she embedded that anything was attainable if you set your mind to it. As a child I watched her work tirelessly running multiple businesses, raising 3 kids & keeping our family together. She inspired me to be the same.
What challenges do you feel women in our industry face and how could we look to push through such challenges?
There is still a gap with gender equality. I feel in this industry it is very easy to be overlooked particularly when dealing with the larger retail chains. This has been an ongoing issue I have faced as a female owned and founded cosmetics company. It has been disheartening at times with the continuous rejection but not something I will let deter me from my goals. I will continue to push through these challenges by changing the plan but never the goal.
What is the best advice you received throughout your career that you can share with our readers?
A quote I continue to remind myself of is “If it was easy, everyone would be doing it”.
Tell us about a big achievement that stands out for you, be it personal or career focused.
Navigating parenthood whilst growing my business. My proudest achievement is meshing the two.
What would you like to share with our beauty industry that may inspire or empower?
Don’t let fear stop you from going after what you want. You don’t need to have all the answers, we are all still learning! Find your passion and just get started, you will figure everything out along the way.
